For whatever it's worth I'd like to note that I was able to build gecode-3.7.1 on NetBSD 5.1 without a problem. Aside from needed dependencies all I had to do was lie to ./configure with the --with-host-os=FreeBSD option. I am not sure why this is not considered to be a supported platform? Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it.
