That depends on how you install Gecode.  If the pkg-config files for  
Gecode are installed with it, you can just parse them yourself (the  
main file is called gecode.pc and is installed in <prefix>/lib/ 
pkgconfig).  If you use the dmg installer packages on Mac OS, however,  
they are not installed, and the library compatibility version (i.e. 12  
for Gecode 2.1.1) is the only hint you have.
